Corey Martin Heroes in the Kitchen
Our latest Hero in the Kitchen Corey Martin has made huge strides in the kitchen. He’s now a prepping and stir-frying master and is churning out delicious dishes for his boyfriend and friends weekly. The story of how he stepped up his cooking game below:

Name: Corey Martin
Age: 27
City, State: Washington, D.C.
I cook for: My boyfriend and often a few friends.
Being able to cook allows me to: Spend quality time with my family and friends.
Favorite Cook Smarts meal: Mustard roasted fish with lentils, peas, and spinach

What’s been your biggest kitchen challenge?
Panicking mid-cooking because I didn’t fully prep ingredients.

How has Cook Smarts helped you with this challenge?
With Cook Smarts’ Meal Plans, every recipe has a ‘prep’ tab. It tells me what I can do to get ready for cooking, so I have all my prepped ingredients in front of me when I start cooking. Being organized takes the stress out of cooking, so it’s fun and the results are great.

Tell us about your current cooking routine and how it’s changed over time?
I used to go on a shopping trip for just one recipe. Now, I shop for the week, and Cook Smarts helps me reuse ingredients across recipes. I’ve collected the basic spices and sauces, so there is much less to buy each week. My shopping and cooking routine has become a lot more efficient.

“If you’ve felt discouraged by other recipes,
try Cook Smarts. It teaches you real techniques that work every time.”

What recent kitchen accomplishment are you most proud of?
When I made the Thai Chicken Basil Stir-fry, I thickened a sauce for the first time. After many recipe failures from other sources, this one actually worked. That was the moment I realized I could actually cook!

What advice would you give to other home cooks that want to cook more?
If you’ve felt discouraged by other recipes, try Cook Smarts. It teaches you real techniques that work every time, and you get to cook delicious food in the process.
