Brooke: Hero in the Kitchen via @CookSmarts
Brooke has impressed us countless times with her DIY crafts and woodworking skills, whether it is a wooden tool toy set for her kids or coming up with an incredible way to use wood scraps to reduce waste. With her creativity and dedication to being hands-on, we can only imagine what she cooks up in the kitchen! One thing we know for sure – with home-raised chickens and homegrown organic fruits and veggies, we are positive that dinner time at Kitchen Hero Brooke’s is beyond delicious. Read her Hero in the Kitchen story below.

Name: Brooke Norsworthy
Age: 28
City, State: San Marcos, TX
I cook for: my husband and toddler, and baby with gluten / dairy intolerances.
Outside of the kitchen I: build furniture and homestead.
If I could have any superpower it would be: telekinesis! Chopping would be a breeze.
I cook because: I value whole, healthy, organic foods for my family.
Favorite Cook Smarts meal so far: Batterless Chile Rellenos

How did you learn to cook?
Self-taught through a lot of trial and error in high school.

What’s been your biggest cooking challenge?
Frying is always a challenge; I have trouble with heat regulation.

How has your cooking routine changed since starting Cook Smarts’ meal plans?
Having a baby with food intolerances meant a lot of changes for both of us. Finding good paleo meals is a challenge, and coming up with the substitutions is difficult on little sleep. I was so relieved to see how easy it was to change meal styles on Cook Smarts, I signed up immediately!

Tell us about your proudest kitchen moment.
Cooking my first delicious roast chicken from a hen I raised myself on organic feed from a chick. That was an amazing feeling!

What are your tips for health and success in the kitchen?
Focus on finding the best ingredients, and food will taste fantastic. It’s even better if you grow them yourself!
