I cook for: myself and my husband.
Outside of the kitchen I: am a computer science student. I like robotics and artificial intelligence. I also love to read, write, lift weights, do yoga, and travel!
If I had to eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be: Ethiopian food.
I cook because: it allows you to be creative, resourceful, observant, and constantly improve. It’s also the way to tastier, healthier food at any time, day or night!
Favorite Cook Smarts meal so far: There have been so many! I love the mustard roasted tilapia with lentils.

HOW DID YOU LEARN TO COOK?

My mom taught me some baking. I also use the internet a lot and watch youtube / read blogs about cooking. Cook Smarts has been the best resource I’ve found so far and has taught me a ton. I’m becoming so much more confident to design my own sauces and dishes.

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST COOKING CHALLENGE?

Having the perseverance to keep trying to cook things if it didn’t turn out well the first time.

HOW HAS YOUR COOKING ROUTINE CHANGED SINCE STARTING COOK SMARTS’ MEAL PLANS?

I can now buy all the materials quickly and efficiently. I definitely eat out less and my husband and I hardly ever waste food! My husband and I have also learned it can be really fun and fast to break up tasks and cook together.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROUDEST KITCHEN MOMENT.

Some of my proudest moments are when I cook something containing vegetables my husband doesn’t normally enjoy and seeing him eat it up, eat seconds, and even request I make it again!

WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR HEALTH AND SUCCESS IN THE KITCHEN?

Buy lots of healthy ingredients and snacks and have them prepped in advance so you are more likely to eat the good, healthy stuff!

Rachel, it’s so awesome that you and your husband are able to cook and enjoy healthy, delicious, homemade meals together. (We’re proud of him for eating more veggies, too!) You also brought up a good point – learning how to cook means you’re never far from a simple, tasty meal. That’s something we can always get behind!
