I cook because working with food engages all of the senses, relaxes me, and is most of all, fun!

Frank: Hero in the Kitchen via @CookSmartsKitchen Hero Frank spends a lot of time in the kitchen (he works in the food service industry), so he’s got a lot of experience with food and cooking. And with that, comes appreciation for the benefits that cooking brings, including engaging his senses – the varying textures of different ingredients; the taste, smell, and sight of the final dish; the sizzling sound of food hitting a hot, oiled pan…There really isn’t anything more satisfying than that! Add some friends and family into the mix (they get to taste all his good cooking!), and Frank has the recipe down for a fun and relaxing time in the kitchen. Read his Hero in the Kitchen story below.

Name: Frank B.
Age: 32
City, State: Austin, TX
I cook for: my significant other, friends, and myself.
Outside of the kitchen I: work in food service, so my time outside of a kitchen is minimal. But when I do have some free time, I enjoy taking my dog for walks, going to see live music, going to the movies, art, and watching TV.
I cook because: working with food engages all of the senses, relaxes me, and is most of all, fun!

How did you learn to cook?
My parents and grandparents, especially my grandmother, taught me how to cook. I also attended culinary school for awhile but did not finish.

What’s been your biggest cooking challenge?
Coming up with quick meals that are also delicious for weeknight dinners.

How has your cooking routine changed since starting Cook Smarts’ meal plans?
Cook Smarts’ has made it easier to cook more often during the week. It is nice to have someone else do the thinking for me sometimes. I am definitely more motivated to cook on a nightly basis since starting Cook Smarts.

Tell us about your proudest kitchen moment.
The first time I grilled a perfectly medium rare steak.

What are your tips for health and success in the kitchen?
Use a variety of vegetables to keep things interesting, and always season well.

Great cooking tips, Frank! We can never stress eating more veggies and seasoning as you go enough. We’re glad to hear that you still have a good time in the kitchen – even though you’re working in the kitchen all day already! – and we’re very happy to be a part of it. Hope this new year will bring lots of new favorites for you and your family and friends! Cheers!
