The Best Love Stories Take Place in the Kitchen

We like to think that the best love stories take place in the kitchen.

Over the last few years, we were so honored to be able to share many of these love stories through our Kitchen Heroes series, because creating a meal for someone – a friend, your children, your maybe-future-lover-turned-maybe-future-spouse – is just a beautifully simple way to say, “I love you.”

With Valentine’s Day happening this Sunday, we’ve rounded up a few kitchen love stories featuring some awesome cooking duos. Check out their stories below and get inspired to grab your special someone to cook with.

And because it’s always much more fun to cook with some background music, we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of our 21 favorite love songs. So pick one of our Kitchen Hero couple’s favorite meals from below, press play, and get ready to cook, eat, and love the night away!

“Cooking together as a couple or family is more fun and rewarding.” – Emily & Anthony

Cooking couple: Emily & Anthony
Favorite dish: Tuna Panzanella Salad
Reason to cook: We both like the act of creating; eating what you create is a great bonus!

Anthony and Emily married young, and a low budget motivated them to get into the kitchen and start cooking. Full-time jobs and busy schedules made it hard to get a homemade meal on the table, but because they find that cooking together is more rewarding, they discovered a simple solution to their problem – meal planning and communication, which can both be quickly done over IM!

Together, they gained confidence in the kitchen by making things that once seemed complicated, and started to impress guests with their homemade dinners.

“In trying a new recipe, we may find a flavor we don’t care for or we may just find a new favorite – but either way it holds body and soul together.” – Rita & Peter

Cooking couple: Rita & Peter
Favorite dish: Spring Pasta with Asparagus and Peas and Fried Eggs with Skillet Asian-Style Veggie Hash
Reason to cook: It’s healthier than ordering out or processed food.

Rita and Peter believe that food nourishes both the body and the soul, but of course, that doesn’t mean that everything they eat or have eaten were the best or even instant favorites. But that never stopped this motivated cooking couple! Together, they learned how to cook so that they could elevate their skills and make more than just packet ramen and Kraft mac and cheese. Cooking together allowed them to discover new flavors and create new dishes, all the while feeding the body and the soul.

“The most important thing in our lives is staying happy and healthy.” – David & Joanna

Cooking couple: David & Joanna
Favorite dish: Adobo-Honey Chicken Kebabs
Reason to cook: It’s fun trying new recipes, and we get to eat healthier than if we ate out all the time.

With busy schedules, it’s hard to find time to prepare dinner, let alone cook a healthy, homemade meal together as a family. But because David and Joanna wanted to live a healthy and happy life, they worked out a schedule that will allow them to both enjoy a stress-free dinner together.

Tag teaming in the kitchen takes the stress off one person’s shoulders. Whenever someone’s schedule is too jam-packed, the other person takes care of the meal planning. Then, when David and Joanna both have the time, they join forces to create memorable dinners that are delicious, healthy, and of course, made with love.

“Cooking allows us to prepare nourishing food for our family and friends and keeps us connected with those that we love.” – Jara & Kenley

Cooking couple: Jara & Kenley
Favorite dish: Soyrizo Breakfast Tacos and Baked Salmon with Curry Sauce
Reason to cook: To relax in the kitchen [and] enjoy the natural disconnect that cooking gives you.

Preparing meals together not only brings Jara and Kenley together, it also builds a connection with their loved ones. They learned to cook from their parents and grandparents, who passed down their recipes and cooking tips and tricks. Cooking their recipes and applying their cooking lessons allows Jara and Kenley to become connected with the people in their lives.

Throughout all their cooking messes and successes, Jara and Kenley were able to develop their cooking skills and create beautiful, flavorful meals that they could feel great about. Their shared meals with loved ones provide even more dinner memories that they’ll always cherish.
